2023 Landmark Series

Now, we’re not saying we’re trend setters here, but we certainly know what’s hot and what’s not – and Albariño (pronounced al-bar-een-yoh) is a proper hottie. Albariño, famous for its Spanish origin, is the stunning new addition to the Landmark Series.

Some might say that Albariño is the new SauvyB for the glamorous and jetting setting crowd, but really – it’s a wine that brings to life any occasion when you put it on the table. It is simply mucho muy delicioso!

If you take a Sauvignon Blanc, sprinkle a little exotic zest, positive peachiness, floral notes, and did we mention ‘fresh’ - gosh this baby is the freshest of the fresh – then you might get an idea of why people are calling it the souped up SauvyB.

We’re not shy in saying that this will be one of our best foodie wines all year round.

HOW IT GOES DOWN

The perfect accessory for the serious food lover. Our Albariño exhibits stunning fruit forward flavours, and a mouthful of lemon, lime, grapefruit, and pear. With its clean, crisp palette it can certainly handle fresh salads, fish tacos, rich cheeses and tapas.

"Bright and youthfully expressed, the bouquet shows rockmelon, apricot, subtle spice and jasmine nuances, followed by a finely textured palate that’s juicy and vibrant. Beautifully framed by crisp acidity, finishing long and zesty. At its best: now to 2026." - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit.

Winemaking

We crafted this wine to reflect the “Landmark” – the attributes and characteristics of the oldest planted New Zealand Albariño vineyard from grower Doug Bell. Produced from vines grown dryland on fertile loam over heavy clay soils, the Landmark Albariño was fermented in 60% stainless steel and 40% Acacia of which 67% was new and 33% 2-year-old puncheons. Yeast selection used enhances mouth feel, floral and varietal characters.

Post ferment the wine was held on lees for 4 months to further enhance palate richness and was left with some residual sugar to balance the grapes naturally high acidity.
